| Faced
with escalating employee injuries costs, injury severities, and lost work
time due to slips and falls during the icy seasons, UAA initiated the
Spiky Program. Beginning in the fall of 2001, free foot traction devices
(Spikies) were offered to all university employees in the Anchorage bowl
area and UAA's community campuses. The Program has been quite successful
and the linked graphs help to display that success. As of this winter
season, no employee who was wearing Spikies slipped on the ice and
sustained an injury. Only those not wearing their Spikies have
sustained injuries amounting to simple bruises to broken bones and
debilitating back strains. The most often quoted reason for the injured
employees not wearing their Spikies is "I forgot to put them on and
left them in my car." |
